O.S. IL-300 Dia-Star
OS celebrated 70 years of model engine manufacturing in 2006. A depth of experience and technical knowledge that is unsurpassed in the field of model engines. Since the launch of their first engine – the `Type 1 Pixie' back in 1936 – OS have strived to design and manufacture the best model engines in the world and their reputation has been built on innovation and strict quality control. Nowhere is this more clearly demonstrated than with their incredible line-up of multi-cylinder engines.
In celebration of their momentous anniversary, OS engineers have developed a masterpiece of precision engineering called the IL-300, an inline four-cylinder 4-stroke reminiscent of the De-Havilland engines used in aircraft like the Tiger Moth and Chipmunk. The design and manufacture of the key items, like the crankshaft and camshaft, make an engine of this nature even more difficult to build than a twin or flat multi cylinder engine. But OS have always risen to a technical challenge and such complex items seemed appropriate for a celebration of engineering achievement.
Very much built to be flown, the IL-300 has a capacity of 50cc and plenty of torque to swing big – 20" x 10" – propellers. Add to that the smooth carburation, plus the fabulous sound that 4 cylinders generates and you can easily see why this one is going to be irresistible.
